Our Support Services

Support for home, community and everything in between

Open Hand Support provides support services across the Upper and Lower Hunter for people who need practical help, patient care and support that can adjust to the day in front of them.

What we can help with

The right support can change the whole day

Support is not always one big thing. Sometimes it is help getting ready in the morning, having someone beside you at an appointment, keeping the house manageable, preparing a meal, getting into the community or having care delivered in a way that feels safe and familiar. Our support services are shaped around each person’s needs, routines, goals and comfort level, so support feels like help, not pressure.

We will talk through what is hard, what is working and where an extra pair of hands could make the week feel easier.

In Home Support

Home should feel like a place where people have comfort, choice and dignity. Open Hand Support can assist with daily routines, personal care, showering, dressing, mealtime support, hygiene, light housekeeping, meal preparation and other practical tasks that help the day feel more manageable.

Community Access

Getting out of the house can mean different things for different people. It may be attending appointments, going shopping, visiting local places, joining activities, seeing friends or slowly building confidence in new settings. We support participants to access the community in a way that feels planned, patient and suited to their needs.

Transport And Appointment Support

Some appointments and outings need more than a lift. They need planning, reassurance and someone who understands what support may be needed before, during and after the trip. Open Hand Support can assist with transport, healthcare appointments, errands and community outings across the Upper and Lower Hunter, with access to a disability accessible vehicle.

Personal Care

Personal care needs trust. We support participants with washing, dressing, eating, hygiene and daily care tasks in a way that protects dignity, privacy and choice. We take the time to understand each person’s preferences and routines, because the way support is provided matters just as much as the task itself.

Meal Preparation And Household Tasks

Small household tasks can make a big difference to how the day feels. We can assist with meal preparation, light cleaning, housekeeping and daily home routines, helping participants maintain a safer, more comfortable and more manageable home environment.

Life Skills And Goal Support

Goals do not always happen quickly, and they do not have to look the same for everyone. We can support participants to build confidence with everyday skills, routines, decision-making, community participation and short or long term goals at a pace that feels realistic.

Complex Care

Open Hand Support brings experience in complex care, including brain trauma, PEG feeding, bowel care, mental health and behavioural support. These supports need skill, patience and clear expectations, which is why we place importance on staff training, policies, procedures and care that is delivered properly.
