Open Hand Support was built from more than a love of helping people. It comes from more than 30 years of hands-on experience across aged care, disability, youth work, behavioural support and complex care
When you have spent years beside people on the hard days, you learn things that cannot be taught from a checklist. You learn when to step in and when to give someone space. You learn how much trust sits behind personal care. You learn that behaviour is often communication. You learn that families carry more than people realise, and that good support can change the feel of an entire day.
Open Hand Support is led by professional experience across multiple supports, along with the personal experience of caring for a child with complex needs. That background brings a different level of understanding to the way support is planned, delivered and adjusted around the person.
Support should never make someone feel like a task on a roster. At Open Hand Support, we take the time to understand each person’s routines, communication, preferences, culture, goals and comfort level. We believe support should leave room for individuality, choice and trust, so the person receiving care feels safe, seen and respected in their own life.
Good support is not just about being kind. It is knowing when someone needs help, when they need space, when a routine needs more time and when something small is actually a big deal.
With more than 30 years across aged care, disability, youth work, behavioural support and complex care, Open Hand Support brings the kind of experience that shows up in the way people are spoken to, cared for and supported through the day.
Every person is different, and support should reflect that. We take the time to understand each person’s needs, personality, choices and way of doing things.
Support should help people feel more capable, not more controlled. We work alongside participants to build confidence, strengthen skills and support greater independence where possible.
People deserve to feel safe, seen and accepted. We want the people we support to feel connected to their home, their community and the people around them.
Respect sits underneath everything we do. We value each person’s culture, choices, privacy, dignity and right to be supported in a way that feels right for them.
Open Hand Support is continuing to grow with purpose. We have access to a disability accessible vehicle to help participants get to appointments, community activities and the places that matter to them with more comfort and support. Our long-term vision also includes developing services further, including the future goal of running and operating a Supported Independent Living home.
Every step forward is guided by the same standard: support should feel personal, practical and genuinely useful to the people receiving it.
We will talk through what is hard, what is working and where an extra pair of hands could make the week feel easier.
